About Julie

Connecting Through Touch

I came to deeply appreciate massage after hurting my back on a backpacking trip in Yosemite. A fellow traveler gave me a massage, and as I lay there looking at the gorgeous Sierra Mountains, I felt transformed, and realized I wanted more of that. For years I practiced informally on friends, fellow dancers and gymnasts. I discovered I had a gift for connecting through touch.

Making it Official

I completed my bachelor’s degree at U.C. Davis in June, 1985, and decided to become a professional massage therapist. After training with Judith McKinnon at the McKinnon Institute of Oakland, CA, I was certified in Swedish, Esalen and Shiatsu massage styles, in 1985. I worked for 14 years at Piedmont Springs Day Spa, in Oakland, until going solo with my private practice in 2001.

Keeping it Simple

I am calm, relaxed, and happy when I’m at work. I enjoy seeing my clients feel renewed as they reconnect with their bodies. In striving to live simply, when I’m not massaging clients I spend my time taking hikes, cooking and eating healthfully, being silly with friends, and daydreaming. As an active yogini in the Vinyasa tradition, I sometimes show clients stretches that can enhance the healing process and support body awareness.
